Cyprus Casino Allegedly Site of Torture as Perpetrator Robs Victims
A man beat and abused people inside a Cyprus casino, sticking a gun into the mouth of one victim, and robbing at least seven people
Gone are the days when people feared walking into a casino lest they won too much and ended up waterboarded in dim-lit backrooms by grubby types. The casino industry has zero reason to scoff at winners; it welcomes them, as a feel-good jackpot story usually drives up business.
However, shocking new video footage from a Lamaca-district casino in Cyprus claims to show that at least seven people are being tortured on camera, an event that local media outlet Cyprus Mail has described as “shocking and degrading.”
Even more worryingly, this was allowed to happen inside the casino, with multiple people identified as the victims now contacted by the police.
The Casino Is Hardly to Blame for the Devious Actions
The good news is that it is not the casino perpetrating the heinous acts, but rather a 48-year-old suspect with a long rap sheet, adding fresh charges to his name, including kidnapping, conspiracy to commit felony, illegal possession and transport of firearms, and, most shocking, torture.
The alleged perpetrator was apprehended by police, who discovered videos of the torture on his phone. Police claim the person tortured his victims for any money and belongings they had on them.
The videos are shocking in breadth and scope, with the victims begging the attacker to take away their possessions and leave them in peace. The attacker is allegedly capturedon camera lingering on his victims and unnecessarily and repeatedly hitting them after they turned in their possessions.
Police Work to Identify the Victims of the Perpetrator
The victims are shown being hit with blunt objects as well as being kicked while they plead with their attacker. Even more repulsively, one video shows the perpetrator inserting a gun into his victim’s mouth and asking them questions.
The police have called the actions abusive, and have been able to identify at least three people so far, but investigators are looking into the others, to ensure that they are well as well as bring a stronger case against the person.
The perpetrator was arrested in relation to another incident, and subsequent examination of his phone revealed the disturbing videos spurring police into action.
