Culinary Union Slams Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over Recent Comment

Ted Pappageorge added that unless DeSantis fixes the troubles in Florida, he should “just shut his mouth”

The Culinary Union has lambasted Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over his recent comments regarding the union. The Culinary Union slammed his anti-union positions and suggested that he should focus on his own problems in the Sunshine State.

DeSantis Accused the Culinary Union of Ballot Harvesting

At a recent press conference, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis weighed in on President Donald Trump’s recent rejection of voting by mail. In addition to supporting Trump’s position, DeSantis criticized the Culinary Union for allegedly examining its members’ votes.

You know, if you’re in Las Vegas, everyone knows ballots get mailed out. Do you think the Culinary Union is just going to let you kind of vote your conscience without trying to — no, they’re going to want to see those votes. They’re going to want to bring the votes in.

DeSantis accused the Culinary Union of doing “ballot harvesting” and violating the principle of “secret ballot.”

DeSantis Should “Shut His Mouth,” Culinary Union Says

The Florida governor’s statement did not sit well with the Culinary Union, which was quick to respond to his “wild accusations.” In addition to slamming his accusations as false, the union highlighted DeSantis’ anti-union stances.

The Culinary Union’s secretary-treasurer, Ted Pappageorge, accused DeSantis of being a staunch anti-union activist who regularly bullies cooks, housekeepers, and food servers. Pappageorge emphasized that DeSantis has supported a variety of anti-worker measures, including breaking public service employees’ unions. In addition to that, he is a supporter of the Right to Work Act that allows employees to keep their jobs without joining a union – a measure that could break up private sector unions, according to Pappageorge.

DeSantis has also expressed opposition to a potential rise in the minimum wage.

Pappageorge berated DeSantis, saying that he should first solve the issues faced by his own state before meddling in Nevada’s affairs.

Maybe if DeSantis and his MAGA buddies focused on the out-of-control cost of eggs, beef, and rent in his own state, instead of running around locking up dishwashers and landscapers and attacking Culinary Union members, he might have some credibility.

Pappageorge added that unless DeSantis fixes the troubles in Florida, he should “just shut his mouth.”

For context, the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165 represent a total of 60,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno, including many working for the biggest casino resorts in the area.
