ComeOn’s Operator in the Netherlands Targeted over AML Shortcomings

The company will have up to six months to sort out the issues identified by the regulator and undergo another review

The Dutch Gambling Authority has targeted Tulipa, the company that operates the ComeOn Group and GetLucky brands, citing issues with anti-money laundering and social responsibility commitments.

Tulipa Under Scrutiny in the Netherlands, AML Failures Cited

Tulipa has failed to carry out sufficient due diligence on customers and has thus breached the established licensee prerequisites to operate gambling products in the country. Another issue cited with the operator and the brands was that there were not sufficient controls on financial transactions, or the source of wealth for players.

Tulipa also failed to keep proper documentation, which made subsequent investigation by the regulator all the more difficult. The AML guidelines utilized by the company were found to have lacked depth and to have been applied across the entire company rather than being tailored to individual specialists and departments.

The watchdog has confirmed that the company had offered full cooperation in the case, and although it is lacking in some areas, relevant documentation was provided as requested. The company has also taken remedial action to address the deficiencies discovered by the regulator.

Tulipa has been given up to six months to address the shortcomings, with the regulator continuing to monitor for subsequent breaches and shortcomings. At the end of the six months, the regulator will once again inspect the various areas that proved deficient in the latest assessment.

The regulator recently fined BetCity, hitting the company with a EUR 2.65 million penalty ($3.07 million).
