California Woman Wins Negligence Lawsuit against The Cosmopolitan
While the publicly available information does not specify the exact nature of the injuries Fenton suffered, it implies that they were very serious

А woman from California has prevailed in a lawsuit against an MGM Resorts International property on the Las Vegas Strip. She has been awarded а $15 million judgment after successfully arguing that the casino hotel’s negligence led to her injury.
The Woman Slipped and Injured Herself
In 2021, Deborah Fenton was visiting The Cosmopolitan. On September 24 that year, she suffered an incident and ended up seriously hurt. A few years later, the woman sued the property, now owned by MGM Resorts International, seeking damages.
According to the lawsuit, Fenton, who was going to the venue’s Chandelier Bar, slipped and fell, suffering a severe injury. In the lawsuit, which was launched in 2023, the plaintiff insisted that she fell because of the “unsafe and dangerous conditions on the property., specifically water and glass.”
While the publicly available information does not specify the exact nature of the injuries Fenton suffered, it implies that they were very serious.
Court Awards $15M Judgment
After two years in court, Fenton won the lawsuit and was awarded a $15 million judgment.
As it turns out, district judge Eric Johnson awarded her $262K for past medical expenses, as well as $977K for future medical expenses. In addition to that, Fenton was awarded $1.4 million for the physical and mental pain she endured and the disability and lost enjoyment of life she suffered. Finally, judge Johnson awarded Fenton $12.3 million for future pain and suffering she will likely experience as a result of her injury.
Members of the Ace Law Group, which represented Fenton in court, released a statement on the case, praising the outcome. According to representatives of the group, the verdict “reflects the seriousness” of the injuries and pain Fenton had to endure because of The Cosmopolitan’s negligence.
We’re proud to have delivered justice for Ms. Fenton and grateful to the jury for their thoughtful and decisive verdict.
Ace Law Group statement
MGM Resorts International, which operates the property, has yet to comment on the matter. While MGM did not own The Cosmopolitan when the incident happened, it has now found itself responsible for the incident.
FTC Ended Inquiry into MGM Cyberattack
In other news, MGM Resorts International recently neared a settlement with The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over the cyberattack that the company suffered in September 2023. The FTC ended its inquiry into the attack, much to the operator’s relief.
The attack itself stuttered MGM’s business, causing millions in damages and exposing client data to malicious cybercriminals. While MGM Resorts has not released further details about the incident, it promised that it is working diligently to resolve the matter.
