AGLC Appoints Two Hockey Players as RG Ambassadors

As hockey season is sucking Canucks into the excitement of the sport, the AGLC is hurrying to issue an important reminder – responsible play is key

Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is keen to make sure that Canadians are watching sports while being aware of the risks associated with problem gambling. To this end, the AGLC has secured two hockey players as brand ambassadors.

They will act as ambassadors for safer gambling for the Play Alberta iGaming platform, the AGLC’s licensed online gambling operator in the province.

Oilers’ forward Leon Draisaitl and Flames’ goalie Dustin Wolf will seek to promote responsible play messages with audiences, but also raise awareness about the existing options.

Alberta Determined to Strengthen RG Safeguards

Wolf and Draisaitl will focus on drawing attention to specific tools that already exist and are readily available to consumers who seek to strengthen their play and protect themselves from erratic behavior or seek help if such has already developed.

Thanks to the tools available at Play Alberta, consumers may keep track of their spending habits, and also resort to setting deposit and betting limits, opt into time-outs, or self-excluding. Commenting on this, AGLC VP of Gaming, Dan Keen, had this to say:

“The addition of two new elite athlete ambassadors will help connect Alberta sports fans to Alberta-based teams with some of the most exciting, show-stopping performers this province currently has. Leon and Dustin are competitive, world-class professionals who give Play Alberta deeper opportunities to remind legal-aged Albertans of the responsible gambling features and tentpole matchups on the sports calendar.”

Play Alberta is one of the largest operators in Canada, with more than 434,000 registered account holders, which has prompted the operator to seek and strengthen its commitments to player safety.

While this is standard practice among Canadian gambling operators, the AGLC has been looking for various ways to introduce better and more efficient safeguards for its players. Among those have been the GameSense program, the social responsibility programs, and the Self-Exclusion option.
