Fredrik Elmqvist, Yggdrasil Gaming’s founder, is seeking to breathe new life into the online gambling sector with the launch of a new studio. The so-called EXCO Game Studio is set to break the mould and dazzle gaming fans with new experiences.
The New Studio Rejects Repetitive Games
EXCO, which stands for Excommunicado, seeks to put the weight behind the word “innovation” and produce slots that truly stand out. Elmqvist regretted the current state of the industry and the repetitive games that many other studios have been releasing.
Elmqvist opposed the “clone game” syndrome that has seen multiple studios hop on the buffalo and Egyptian mythology bandwagon and release games without an identity of their own. In an interview with iGaming Expert, Elmqvist said:
I’m going to be honest, the industry has become a bit tired and lazy, stuck in a cycle of uninspiring product rollouts, sequels and reskins, which is why we’ve launched EXCO.

EXCO will therefore examine players’ interest and seek to catch emerging trends influenced by factors beyond the gaming industry.
According to Elmqvist, the goal is not to chase quantity but quality. Because of that, the new studio will focus on fewer releases, making sure that each one is as unique and polished as possible.
The first addition to the EXCO portfolio will be a game called Vegasline, which is set to debut at the upcoming SBC Summit in Lisbon. The company is also working on an additional five titles and has a roadmap featuring over 30 games.
EXCO’s Priorities Are Artistry and Gameplay
Elmqvist added that EXCO’s products will also seek to differentiate themselves with new engagement mechanics that truly enhance how players experience slot gaming. To that end, the studio will introduce the GAMEX line of engagement features.
According to the founder, the studio will not produce games that its members themselves wouldn’t play. Instead, EXCO will be all about artistry and superior gameplay experiences.
As mentioned, Elmqvist is the founder of Yggdrasil, a leading supplier of iGaming products. As such, he has a profound understanding of what works and what does not and plans to leverage this expertise to turn EXCO into a leading disruptor.
Elmqvist invited industry enthusiasts to visit his team’s stand at SBC Summit Lisbon and experience the new studio’s ethos for themselves.
