Reasons Why Oddsmakers Think Taira Will Win
Tatsuro Taira’s odds have been shortening constantly since it was announced that he’s got a new opponent. When the markets opened, he was a -340 favorite. Now, his UFC Vegas 108 odds are -400.
The reason behind this isn’t just that he’s had a full camp, while his opponent has only had about a week to prepare. It’s also because the Japanese is a hell of a fighter. He’s 16-1 with his only loss happening against Brandon Royval last November.
He lost that fight by a split decision after a 25-minute thriller. He did get beaten up by Royval that night, but he also did very well wrestling-wise, landing a career-high six takedowns.
Can Park Hyun-sung Keep on Winning?
Park Hyun-sung is 10-0 overall, with each of his last nine wins happening by a finish. He beat five opponents by submission and four by knockout/technical knockout.
Obviously, he’s a very well-rounded fighter, but the fact is that he hasn’t faced too many elite opponents. In fact, his biggest win happened in May when he submitted Carlos Hernandez with a rear-naked choke.
We also don’t know much about his athleticism. Given that he’s never stayed in the cage for more than 15 minutes, we don’t know if he’s got the gas tank to keep him going for the full five rounds.
Tatsuro Taira vs. Park Hyun-sung Prediction
We think that Tatsuro Taira is a much better fighter than Park Hyun-sung. We think that his wrestling is superior, and his striking should be at least on Park’s level. Still, the biggest advantage he has over his Korean foe is that he’s had plenty of time to prepare – he’s probably in much better shape than Park.
Our prediction for his fight against Albazi was that he’s gonna win by decision, but against Park Hyun-sung, we think he might get the job done quicker.
Pick: Tatsuro Taira
