Swifties Are Showing up at NFL Games and Engaging with the Sport

The Kansas City Chiefs have been able to attract an unlikely group of people as their newest fans. But this is not the result of some marketing coup – rather, it has to do with the team’s superstar, Travis Kelce’s love life, and the fact that he is now engaged to Taylor Swift.

Where Swift goes, the Swifties follow, and the effects are visible. Taylor Swift has, indeed, been prominently featured in NFL live broadcasts with her face contorting into joy or sadness depending on the Chiefs’ performance. Yet, some have grumbled that Swift is, on occasion, gobbling up too much screen time.

The Swift Effect Is Real and the NFL Is Loving It

This is, however, down to the NFL to decide, as Swift’s presence herself is not a reason for the cameras to turn away from the game. For the most part, Swift’s presence at the NFL stadiums has been a positive thing among fans, including the newest cohort of football-loving pop aficionados.

Many fans have argued that the Swift effect has been real, motivating girls and women to show more interest in the sport, albeit men have followed just as closely behind. The power couple has been tempting the public eye, and they have been offering a glimpse into their relationship freely.

Viewership Is Up, the Highest It Has Been Since 2010

On an episode of Travis Kelce’s podcast, the NFL player and Swift set a world record of 1.3 million concurrent views for a single YouTube episode.

While there is no strong data just yet to suggest how many people have been tuning in to watch the NFL because of Swift, there have been 18.58 million views per game a week so far, the highest since 2010.

This bodes well for professional football, but of course, at least a bit of this has to be attributed to Kelce’s love life. The Swifties are flocking to the NFL, and everyone seems happy about it.
