Sochi is going to become an epicenter of poker for Eastern Europe, more so than it already is, due to a new deal between PartyPoker and Sochi Casino. The Sochi Casino and Resort has already enticed some people to visit Russia and enjoy everything the hotel-casino has to offer. Just recently PartyPoker Live and Sochi Casino and Resort had a meeting.
The result—PartyPoker Live has an agreement with Sochi Casino and Resort that makes them primary partners for the next four years.
Sochi Casino and Resort opened in January 2017, and it has already seen a stellar business. The move with PartyPoker will certainly put it on the map for poker players looking for tournaments to enter.
PartyPoker’s History with Tournaments
PartyPoker Live was the primary sponsor of the first Euroasia Poker Tour. In March, PartyPoker held a million event at Sochi with Dmitry Chop winning against 1,170 participants. Chop took home the $225,000 first prize. In September, PartyPoker appeared again at the Sochi Casino Resort for the $5 million GTD millions event. At this event, Aleksandr Gofman took home the $1 million first prize, beating out 999 other participants. The GTD event was the first one held in Russia on such a grand prize scale.
However, PartyPoker was not the only live poker company in the mix at the time. PokerStars was also working with Sochi to host the PokerStars Championship and Festival Events. However, both of those events were not as successful as PartyPoker. The new deal could stop PokerStars from holding events at the Sochi casino, or it may limit what the company can do.
The agreement is for eight events per year. PartyPoker will host the first of these eight events starting May 13. It is another $5 million GTD, but this time it is a World Series of Poker Circuit event that is hosted in Russia. After this event is the $10 million GTD PartyPoker millions Russia, which is happening August 4 through the 12. In October, there is the $5 million GTD Euroasia Poker Tour, as well as a Russian Poker Championship event. There are other events planned, but none are as mega as those listed above. The other four seasonal events will be announced as they grow closer in time, so poker players should keep their eye out for how to get invited to the events.
The new relationship seems to be a good one for poker players.
