PUBG Corp. are the masterminds behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and they are rumoured to have prepared a zombie mode for the popular battle royale game. How much of this is true?
Zombies Come to PUBG Mobile
Zombies hold a strange fascination over gamers. They are a sort of unspeakable horror that terrifies in titles such as Left 4 Dead, but it somehow feels right to shoot down the rotting, walking corpses. Much better than shooting avatars, it turns out.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is rumored to be bringing zombies to the mobile version of the game, YouTube channels Game Lovers and Mr. Ghost Gaming have speculated. According to Game Lovers, the game will get a quick update between January 18 and January 20, introducing swarms of zombies.

This is not far fetched at all, given the fact that PUBG Mobile has teamed up with Resident Evil Games, with the announcement coming on December 1, the last day of the PUBG Mobile Dubai Finals.
In the Tweet trailer, we can see a PUBG hero trying to hold back a zombie who seems very much intent on getting a pound of flesh. While zombies are not confirmed, the whole hpye could simply be an extension of something PUBG have done in the past – i.e. introduce a number of pop culture characters, as they have with “Suicide Squad”, or, conversely it may be PUBG’s very own announcement of an upcoming zombie apocalypse.
No official confirmation about zombies has come yet, but players speculate that it might be a case of having a set number of zombie players trying to hunt down the human players, instilling a bit of that Left 4 Dead vibe.
The reported changes to the game this January at a glance are:
- Zombie mode
- New weapon: MK 47 Mutant
- New vehicle: Tushai, a rickshaw
- Laser sight for weapons
- New snow area in Erangel map
- Graphical changes to dances, maps and voiceovers
It seems far more likely, however, to get a second shot as a zombie which has nothing to lose and just make the life of players extremely difficult. It’d be cool to see what mechanics a zombie in PUBG would have. Using a weapon is off the table, but crawling at a slow pace against an automated gun is not much fun either.
New trouble calls for new toys, and PUBG Mobile will reportedly get the MK 47 Mutant (already introduced to PUBG), a new rifle with a laser sight attachment, allowing players to take down enemies from afar. To add to the overall wackiness of the offer, Tushai, a new rickshaw vehicle, has also been on the list with upcoming changes, introducing tweaks to the dynamics of the game.
Though we’re not sure if a zombie apocalypse is going to break any time soon, we’re going to keep an eye out for it.
