Project Cars 2 eSports Racing Series

Project Cars 2 release date last year built plenty of anticipation. Now a new announcement is adding to the excitement surrounding the released game.

LetsPlay.Live or LPL announced they are going to hold a New Zealand Championship involving the game. It will be a nationwide eSports racing competition. The tournament is looking to find the fastest racer. The championship is looking for the eight fastest racers to qualify. These individuals will compete for a part of the $10,000 prize pool.

The qualifier will take place at SKYCITY in Auckland’s Welcome Room Saturday, April 21, 2018. The games are held between 10 am and 2 pm. Racing simulators are going to be set up in the room, where the top six racers, based on the lap times for the day, will qualify for the series.

The last two places are up for grabs by New Zealanders who submit their fastest lap times via screenshot online submissions. They will need to use the hashtag #ProjectCars2NZ. The championship games will be an eight-week series that starts May 1st. Live broadcasts will occur for the twelve series event, where the video racetracks will be raced for the fastest lap times using racing simulators. The racers will compete at LPL studios.

Brendon White is part of the Xtreme Motorsport Series and will be commentating for the teams. He said eSports is gaining the younger crowds and is very relevant to a market today. Simulation driving is part of a race car drivers practice and for car development, so those who are taking part in eSports could end up with careers in the racing industry.

Awards bring more interest to car-based eSports tournaments. It may be why New Zealand has decided to create such a championship, which comes in the wake of a US announcement that NASCAR will enter the industry.

The US Adds NASCAR

Car racing games are extremely popular around the world. It is why the announcement of NASCAR taking part in eSports may help transcend current revenue in the industry.

NASCAR is one more addition beyond the new Project Cars 2 championship in New Zealand that is putting a light on eSports. Several industry sports teams and corporations are trying to get a piece of the games.

Project Cars 2 is showing that there is popularity and young kids are getting a chance to experience more, potentially even breaking into careers they never thought of until now.
