Pragmatic Play Gets Early Dibs on iGaming Market in Alberta

As a supplier, Pragmatic Play is uniquely placed to benefit from the initial boom in online casino interest by providing world-class products to local audiences and players.

Among the titles that players may access are such fresh releases as Fury of Anubis and Big Bass Blast, but also the studio’s signature Gates of Olympus series

Pragmatic Play Director of PR Sharon McHugh has welcomed the opportunity to see the supplier break ground locally and deliver what McHugh touted as premium entertainment to operators.

“Building on our strong momentum in Ontario, this expansion reinforces Pragmatic Play’s long-term commitment to the Canadian market. We look forward to working closely with partners across the province as the market continues to develop,” McHugh noted.

North America Important to Pragmatic Play as Company Focuses on Core Business

North America is an important part of Pragmatic Play’s overall strategy, and Alberta is expected to be a substantial market and a driver of regional operational results, with the supplier keen to capitalize on this early.

Suppliers have long been securing licenses to enter the market upon launch, with some of the other popular game and tech solutions providers including Oddin.gg, High 5 Games, EveryMatrix, Octoplay, and Kambi Group, to mention a few.

Pragmatic Play is bringing more than just its slot games, with the studio delivering its live casino options and such acclaimed games as baccarat, blackjack, roulette, and immersive game shows, to name a few.

Pragmatic Play recently shuttered its bingo and sportsbook operations, deciding to focus on its core business – online casino products.

It’s interesting to see Alberta following a regulated model similar to Ontario. More regulated options should give players better consumer protection and transparency. I also like comparing how different markets approach licensing and player safety—in Finland, for example, there are comparison sites such as Pikakasinot.com that cover licensed online casinos and responsible gambling information. It’ll be interesting to see how Alberta’s market develops over the next year.
