After three brilliant wins that saw Messi score 6 goals, Inter Miami got destroyed by FC Cincinnati on Wednesday night. The final score was 3:0 for the boys from Ohio, and Messi had one of his worst games since making America his home.
He and his boys would love to forget about that defeat, and the best way to do so is to beat the NY Red Bulls. Let’s see if they can pull it off.

New York Red Bulls are a Force to Be Reckoned With
In 2025, the NY Red Bulls have an offensive line that looks nothing short of scary. Sure, they don’t have Messi like Inter Miami do, but they have a couple of former Bundesliga stars.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is their top scorer, a center-forward who’s famous for his time spent with Bayern Munich. They also have Emil Forsberg, who spent a decade at RB Leipzig before moving to New York.
The result of this is that they’ve been scoring a lot of goals in the 2025 MLS. In their most recent game, for example, we saw them beat the New England Revolution 5:3.
What’s fun is that they were 2:0 down at halftime, but Choupo-Moting and Forsberg scored two each, while Edelman scored the remaining one.
Inter Miami Determined to Get Back on the Winning Track
After the Club World Cup break, Inter Miami went into an amazing run that saw them win three games in a row. They beat CF Montreal (4:1), New England Revolution (2:1), and Nashville SC (2:0), with Lionel Messi scoring six goals along the way.
But then, he did nothing against FC Cincinnati last Wednesday. As a result, his team lost 3:0, which was one of their worst defeats in the MLS since Messi’s arrival. In fact, they only lost once by the same margin in 2025.
What needs to worry them is that they have a similar experience with their next opponent. Back in March 2024, the New York Red Bulls beat them 4:0. However, to be fair, Messi didn’t play then. He will play now, and he needs to be at the top of his game.
Unfortunately, some of his teammates will miss the July 19 game, most notably, Inter Miami’s best goalkeeper, Oskar Ustari.
New York Red Bulls vs. Inter Miami Prediction
We think this is going to be the most exciting game of the entire round. Both teams are great offensively, and they’ve both been conceding a lot of goals lately. Over 2.5 goals looks like a certainty, but who’s gonna score more? We think it’s going to be Inter Miami, but only if Messi shines.
