The winner of a $100,000 lottery prize was quick to share her newfound fortune with another – her daughter. Winner Vickie Darrell of Dunn in North Carolina bought a $30 scratch-off ticket on Saturday last week.

After going home, she decided to call up her daughter, and while on the phone, she found out that she had just won $100,000 from the lottery! Darrell did not hesitate about what to do next and told her daughter that she was splitting the reward with her.

Lottery Winner Thinks Her Winning Ticket Is a Blessing – Can’t Believe It

The two appeared at the North Carolina Lottery headquarters for the customary big-check award ceremony, a photo-op, and, of course, a short interview. Darrell is still surprised by what happened, though.

“For this to happen while I was on the phone with her – I can’t even explain what this means to me. I am still trying to believe it,” Darrell said, still processing her six-figure win and giving it even more meaning because it happened while on the phone with her daughter.

Darrell’s daughter was happy for her mom at once, but she was also a bit skeptical at first. She asked her mother if she was seeing the right number of zeros. After checking, Darrell could confirm indeed. The win was scored on the Supreme 7s lottery game and bought by Valero on West Cumberland Street in Dunn.

“This is a blessing,” Darrell explained, arguing that the money was indeed much needed by the family. Darrell also opted for the lump sum payout, which reduced her net prize to $71,758 after all taxes had been applied.

Darrell is splitting the money with her family and helping out her daughter first. This is not the only story recently about a mother winning big from the lottery only to share the money with her family and daughter.

A Gloucester woman in Virginia also won a similar prize – $100,000, and while her name was not released like the case of Darrell, the winner confirmed that she would be splitting her money with her two daughters as well.
