Maria Lampropulos beat 582 players at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) 2018. Lampropulos won the main event of $10300 and earned a score of 7 digits the second time in under a year. Lampropulos is the first female player to achieve the milestone. Her final table result was $1,081,100 and she received a Platinum Pass worth $30000. Lampropulos is a 36-year-old Argentinian, who beat Shawn Buchanan, Koray Aldemir, and Adrian Mateos to occupy the no.1 spot.
Buchanan was in the lead by 13.6m vs 3.4m. Then, the Argentinian took over and proceeded to victory. Kevin Schulz was the last player to win the PCS with a 7 digit score in 2015. In 2017, Lampropulos beat 1204 players and went on to win the PartyPoker MILLIONS in Nottingham.
The Best Female Poker Player in the World
Is it possible that Lampropulos can surpass Vanessa Selbst and take the reign as the queen of poker? Winning the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure granted Lampropulos 606.34 points and if the winning streak continues, Lampropulos will be the biggest female poker player in the world. Lampropulos beat Liv Boeree, who is ranked the third best female poker player in the world, to reach the final table.
What was interesting to note about the two players is their choice of partners. Both are dating poker players. Lampropulos is dating Ivan Luca and Boeree partner is Igor Kurganov. In 2017, the pair of Kurganov and Boeree were the winners of the $10000 in the No Limit Hold ‘em Tag Team Championship. In 2016, Lampropulos lost to Luca in the NLHE Eureka Poker Tour Main Event in King’s Casino.
Even though Vanessa Selbst is the number one female poker player in the world, she has stiff competition this year from Cate Hall, Liv Boeree, and Maria Lampropulos. This year is going to be interesting for the top female poker players in the world and if the performance of the trailing players continues, we will see Selbst dethroned. One of the main contenders vying for the top spot is Lampropulos. This may be her year.
