A Cleveland resident in Ohio has won a life-changing amount, with the winner bagging a $2,000,000 prize from a scratch-off game sold in the state last week. The person, who has opted for the right to remain anonymous, won by chance, the lottery said, although details about the winner were not too well publicized.
Ohio Person Wins $2M off a Scratch-off Ticket
What is known is that the person bought and played a $20 scratch-off ticket. That ticket turned out to be the winner, fetching the eye-watering sum. Interestingly, though, the winner is not keen on grabbing the full payout outright, which would have reduced their payout significantly, under the $1-million mark.
Instead, the mystery winner has defied expectations and opted for the annuity option, which will see them claim $1,4440,000 over the next 25 years. The tax rates that apply this way are “only” 28%, and much less than the standard fare, which is nearly double.
The person would be getting about $80,000 every year this way, and the fact that they have chosen the annuity indicates that they may be younger and consider two decades to be sufficient time to claim the reward.
