A Michigan man had the time of his life when he found out that he had snatched a $500,000 lottery prize. The events that led to winning the ticket are also interesting. After trying to purchase a scratcher from a local store, the 57-year-old resident of Tuscola County was disappointed to find out that there were no tickets left for the game he specifically wanted to play.
Man Secures $500K After He Was Sold Another Ticket
Instead of giving up, though, the soon-to-be-a-winner agreed to purchase a ticket for another game from the Speedway on West Car Road in Caro, where he purchased the ticket. The anonymous player recounted the story to the lottery, saying that he stopped buying a Triple Red 777s ticket, but when this was missing, he was okay with purchasing a Detroit Tigers ticket instead.
“It was hard to believe when I saw I’d won $500,000, but after looking the ticket over several times, I told myself it must be real,” the man said.
However, he needed confirmation, so he went back to the shop and asked the cashier to help him confirm if he had won. The lottery shared his reaction when he finally received the confirmation he had been looking for:
“I signed the ticket and took it back into the store to have the cashier check it. After she scanned it, she handed it back and said: ‘Looks like you have to go to Lansing for this one!’ Winning $500,000 is an answered prayer and still hasn’t fully sunk in.”
While the winner chose to remain anonymous, his plans for the money from the ticket are clear -he will use it to help out his family with various expenses as well as allocate a fair bit into various investment ventures.
