A Must-Win Game for Los Angeles FC
Los Angeles FC lost to Mazatlan FC on penalties after 1:1 in regulation. The penalty lottery lasted for 12 rounds, with LAFC’s best player, Denis Bouanga, being the one to miss the crucial shot.
Speaking of LAFC’s top scorer in the 2025 MLS, he entered the game in the second half and didn’t do much. The same goes for their second-most prolific scorer, Nathan Ordaz, who spent less than half an hour on the field before the penalty shootout.
Coach Steven Cherundolo obviously thought that his team could cope without them, but Mazatlan proved him wrong. He’s probably learned his lesson, though, and will put them in the starting lineup on August 1 against Pachuca.
Pachuca Wanna Keep Their Good Run Going
After a debacle at the Club World Cup, in which they lost all three of their games, Pachuca entered a good run in the Liga MX. They beat Monterrey 3:0, followed by a 3:2 win over UNAM Pumas, and a 1:0 win over Mazatlan.
Then, the 2025 Leagues Cup started, and despite being underdogs against San Diego FC, they won the game 3:2. Twenty-year-old forward Alexei Dominguez was the man of the match with two goals, while Pachuca’s third goal was the work of Guadalajara Chivas’ loanee Victor Guzman.
Those two have been sensational over the last couple of weeks, and the same applies to Luis Quinones, Jhonder Cadiz, and other offensive-minded players. Their defenders – despite conceding four goals in the last four matches, have also been at the top of the game, especially center-backs, Sergio Barreto and Eduardo Bauermann.
Los Angeles FC vs. Pachuca Prediction
Our prediction is that this is going to be a real thriller with plenty of goals on both ends. But which team will score more? Pachuca is our pick. Sure, the game is played on LAFC’s turf, and the Californians are desperate for a win, but the Mexican team has left a fantastic impression on us in Round 1.
They’re in great form, and they have plenty of amazing offensive players who could run riot on LAFC’s defense.
Pick: Pachuca & Over 2.5 Goals
