Following a short break, the English Premier League (EPL) is back in action, and we are all agog to see the latest football derby. One of the most notable games coming up this week is the clash between the leaders from Liverpool and the heavy contenders from Tottenham Hotspurs.
Liverpool Meets Hotspurs in a Deciding Game
Both teams have a lot at stake. Liverpool have had an impeccable score so far, making sure that they win one game after another. It doesn’t mean that Liverpool had an easy go at it. Quite to the contrary, in fact. They met stern opposition in their last two games playing against Brighton and winning narrowly against Leicester. Such as football is, though, the games highlighted the fact that Liverpool are not unbeatable nor are they the type of team to take risks.
It’s in the discipline that underpins their success as a soccer powerhouse. Meanwhile, we have seen a lot happen with Tottenham Spurs. Following a land-mark victory over Manchester United, the team has found its pace and style of play even if Hotspurs conceded a defeat from another favorite – Watford. The game against the third-best in the group was not exactly smooth sailing for Tottenham who fought long and hard but eventually saw the final score go 2-1 in favor of Watford.
Tottenham may have indeed lost some of the pace they demonstrated in the game against Manchester United with Mauricio Pochettino hinting his dissatisfaction with how the team handled the game. Still, Tottenham are three victories and one loss ahead in the overall standing.
Liverpool’s Impregnable Defenses
Speak about Liverpool and one fact immediately jumps out on you. The team haven’t allowed more than a single point in their goal in this season of the English Premier League (EPL), and this is an achievement that is quite admirable and to be fair – signals that any opponent may indeed be in a lot of trouble.
However, Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, and Dele Ali are all thee to penetrate Liverpool’s unyielding defenses. With four victories into the competition, Liverpool are already the clear contenders for the EPL title and Manchester City definitely have something to worry about. As a result, Liverpool will seek to keep their competitive edge intact, owing to footballers, such as Sadio Mané, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Liverpool have a rough month ahead of them, too. They will have to face a number of teams as part of various competitions, including Paris Saint-Germain, Southampton, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Napoli.
Tottenham’s Honest Chances
Still, Tottenham Spurs are in a good spot to bring home a victory, although they will need to watch out for burnout among their footballer. Harry Kane has been showing signs of fatigue in recent performances, which doesn’t benefit the team as a whole. It also goes to show how dependent a team is on its key strikers, which is never too good a thing.
Tottenham has all the footballers to defeat Liverpool and should it succeed, it will shape up as the new contender for the ultimate title.
