Inter Miami vs. FC Cincinnati is the most interesting MLS game of the weekend. It’s because Lionel Messi & Co. have a chance to get revenge for one of the biggest losses they suffered since his arrival.

Inter Miami Plotting Revenge
After their Club World Cup campaign ended, Inter Miami went on a winning streak in the 2025 MLS, beating three teams in a row. But then, their superb run was ended by FC Cincinnati, who beat them 3:0.
It was one of their biggest losses in the Lionel Messi era. Plus, it saw his arguably worst performance since making America his home. However, just three days after the defeat, Inter Miami demonstrated their power again.
In their most recent game, the Herons obliterated the New York Red Bulls 5:1 on the road. Guess who was the man of the match? Lionel Messi, obviously, with two goals and two assists.
His former colleagues from Barcelona – Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba – also did great in that game despite not scoring. Speaking of them, they were all invited to the MLS All-Star Game, but according to coach Javier Mascherano, they’re going to miss it so that they could be 100% focused on the FC Cincinnati game on July 26.
Can FC Cincinnati Beat Inter Miami Twice in a Month?
Their first duel of 2025 took place in Ohio on July 16. It was the first time in a while that Oscar Ustari wasn’t between Inter Miami’s posts. Without their first-choice goalie, it’s no surprise that they conceded three goals. What’s more surprising is that they failed to score a single goal.
Sure, Messi and the rest of Inter Miami’s players weren’t in the mood that day, but it also has to do with the fact that Cincy’s defense did a fine job. Former USMNT players, Matt Miazga and DeAndre Yedlin, have been great throughout the season, and that includes the game with Inter Miami.
Still, it’s Roman Celentano who, in our eyes, deserves most of the praise. The goalie has been sensational in 2025 in almost every game. Against Miami, he stopped both shots on goal, while in the next game – against Real Salt Lake – he went 7-for-7.
Inter Miami vs. FC Cincinnati Prediction
FC Cincinnati are great defensively, but are they great enough to stop Messi & Co. from scoring twice in a row? We don’t think so. Instead, they’ll need to try and find another way of getting anything out of this game. And that way is to take advantage of the fact that Ustari is still out with an injury.
That said, we expect Cincy to score at least one, but that probably won’t be enough to stop Miami. No matter how many goals they score, Messi and the boys will score more.
