The US division of renowned United Kingdom-based bookmaker William Hill has significantly expanded its sports betting partnership with Golden Entertainment, one of the most popular casino operators in the United States.
The news of this new development came on October 2 when Golden Entertainment announced a significant expansion of its existing relationship with the William Hill US that encompasses the race and sports books at Pahrump Nugget Hotel & Gambling Hall and the deposit kiosks that currently sit at close to 70 Golden Entertainment gaming locations in different parts of the state of Nevada. Under the new partnership deal, William Hill will be tasked with managing Golden Entertainment’s race and sports betting operations in Montana, Maryland, and Nevada.
“We are excited to expand our current relationship with William Hill, which has a proven sports wagering platform not only in Nevada but around the world. We look forward to growing our business in Nevada and other jurisdictions through this partnership,” Golden Entertainment COO Steve Arcana said on their new sports betting initiative.
Of the three states that the partners plan to venture into, only Nevada already had sports betting operation legally in place. However, following the May US Supreme Court ruling that lifted the federal ban on sports betting, there has been a rapid expansion of sports betting in the countries with a number of gambling operators, including William Hill and Golden Entertainment, rushing to stake their claim in as many markets as possible.
For now, Nevada seems to be the main focus of the two companies – while it awaits state regulatory approval, William Hills will in the meantime be overseeing betting operations at four of the Nevada-based properties that Golden Entertainment acquired through its 2017 deal for the American Casino & Entertainment Properties (ACEP). The 2017 deal also included the Stratosphere in Vegas. In addition to that, William Hill will continue to operate the sports books at the Laughlin-based Edgewater and Colorado Bell casinos that were acquired by Golden Entertainment from Marnell Gaming last July.
William Hill’s Sports Betting Aspirations
William Hill has been very proactive in its quest to take advantage of the massive sports betting expansion that has been happening in the United States. One of its more recent developments came last month when it signed a 25-year deal with casino group Eldorado. Under the terms of the partnership, the two companies will jointly evaluate all the forthcoming sports betting opportunities. They will also be bidding requests on from the United States lotteries on a mutually exclusive basis.
Similarly, William Hill also recently struck another multi-year partnership deal with International Game Technology (IGT) to offers United State lotteries a full-service solution for sports betting. For this particular agreement, mobile sports betting is going to be a give some serious amounts of consideration in states where sports betting and online gaming have been legalized.
