Can Fluminense Knock Out Another Giant?
In April 2025, Fluminense re-hired coach Renato Gaucho – for the 7th time. And this time around, he seems to be doing the right thing as the team manager.
In his first major campaign – the 2025 Club World Cup – he led his team all the way to the seminal without losing a single game.
They started the tournament with a 0:0 draw with Borussia Dortmund. Given that the Germans were -150 favorites before that game, it was actually a pretty good result for Gaucho’s men.
Then, they beat Ulsan HD 4:2 and played another 0:0 draw, this time with Mamelodi Sundowns, which was enough for them to qualify for the knockout phase.
In the first round, they played against -150 favorites, Inter Milan, and beat them 2:0. In the second round, they defeated Al Hilal 2:1.
Chelsea’s Players are in Goal-Scoring Mood Right Now
So far, they’ve scored a total of 12 goals, which accounts for 2.4 goals per game on average. Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez have been in phenomenal shape so far, but their colleagues shouldn’t be underestimated either.
In fact, Chelsea probably has the most well-rounded squad in the tournament, with at least two players for every position on the field. This explains why they put on a great show in almost every match of the 2025 Club World Cup.
We say “almost” because they did slip against Flamengo RJ in the second round of the group phase – they lost 3:1. They also struggled against Benfica in the round of 16. It was 1:1 after 90 minutes, but they then obliterated the Portuguese, scoring another three goals in extra time.
Fluminense vs. Chelsea Prediction
Chelsea is the better of the two, but Fluminense mustn’t be underestimated. Gaucho’s boys are willing to go all-in on Thursday and cause serious problems for the Blues. That said, we can see them score a goal or two, but we also think Chelsea will do the same. Actually, our prediction is that Chelsea will score at least one goal more.
