Diego Lopes Wanna Prove Oddsmakers Wrong

Diego Lopes is 26-7 overall with a 5-2 record in the UFC. His journey in Dana White’s promotion started with a loss to Movsar Evloev – he lost by unanimous decision after getting beaten up and suffering four TDs.

In that fight, Lopes attempted four submissions but failed to finish Evloev. In the following fight, however, he finished Gavin Tucker with a triangle armbar on his third attempt.

From grappling, he then switched to striking, beating his next two opponents by KO – Pat Sabatini and Sodiq Yusuff. Then, he went the distance – and won by decision – against Dan Ige and Brian Ortega.

Those wins impressed Dana White & Co., so they gave him a shot at the vacant title. Unfortunately for him, his opponent in the fight for the belt was Alexander Volkanovski, who beat him up in a 25-minute fight, landing almost three times as many significant strikes as him.

Jean Silva Looking for Another Finish

We can admit we’re riding the Jean Silva hype train. It’s no surprise really, given that the guy is 16-2 overall with 13 wins in a row.

Further, each of his last five fights saw a finish – he defeated four opponents by KO/TKO before submitting Bryce Mitchell with a ninja choke in his most recent fight.

A member of the Fighting Nerds team, Silva is famous for having plenty of weapons in his arsenal, as well as a very high fight IQ. What we’re not so sure about is whether he’s got the stamina to survive a 5-round war with Silva.

The thing is that only three of his 18 pro MMA fights lasted until the final bell, and he’s never fought a 5-rounder before. He won one of those fights, while losing the other two. That said, we can’t say that we’re confident that he can keep on fighting if the fight drags on, which is why he’ll probably try to get a finish ASAP. Will this work out for him?

Diego Lopes vs. Jean Silva Prediction

Jean Silva will almost certainly try to get the job done quickly, but the trouble is that Diego Lopes is someone who’s tough as nails. After all, this guy went to a 25-minute war with legendary Volk five months ago. He lost that fight but gained valuable experience, which could help him in the Noche UFC 3 main event.

Our prediction is that he’s going to fight smart and try to tire out his opponent. If this works, we could see him beat up Jean Silva in the closing couple of rounds.
