Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) announced its plans to renovate its charitable gaming facility in Salem, New Hampshire. The company expects to invest up to $200 million in transforming the venue into a modern casino called Rockingham Grand Casino.

The Casino Will Be Significantly Expanded

In its official announcement, CDI noted that plans will see the Casino Salem in Salem, New Hampshire, redeveloped into Rockingham Grand Casino. The property currently occupies a 19,000 square-foot area within The Mall at Rockingham Park. However, the expanded property will be much larger and will feature even more games.

CDI said that Rockingham Grand Casino would occupy some 160,000 square feet and will take up three floors of The Mall. Among other things, the property will boast some 825 historical racing machines (HRMs), 32 table games, and 12 electronic table game seats. In addition to that, Rockingham Grand Casino will feature a 900-seat live entertainment venue, as well as several food and beverage options.

The redevelopment has been officially greenlit by the Salem Planning Board. According to CDI, it will take until mid-2027 to complete and will cost between $180 million and $200 million.

Rockingham Grand Casino Will Be a Key Tenant of The Mall

The refreshed and expanded casino will be a “key tenant” of The Mall at Rockingham Park, which is New Hampshire’s largest shopping mall. CDI added that the property is also near Tuscan Village, a major commercial area, making it a prime entertainment destination.

Bill Carstanjen, CDI’s chief executive officer, commented on the matter, saying that the Churchill Downs team is thrilled to kick off this redevelopment project.

We are proud to officially begin our development of Rockingham Grand Casino in partnership with Joe Faro and Sal Lupoli. We look forward to contributing to New Hampshire’s charitable organizations while bringing outstanding entertainment experiences to our guests across the greater Boston region.
