Rodriguez Tipped to Win, But Can Amil Pul an Underdog Win?

Both Rordirugez and Amil are coming out of a two-loss streak, or to put it more accurately – they are hoping to. Only one fighter will emerge victorious and the bookmakers are betting that this would be Rodriguez posted as a (-200) favorite

Well, this is not carved in stone, as a closer look leaves some room for doubt after all. While tipped to win, Rodrgiuez recent form has been somewhat worse off than Amil, and he struggled to win over the past five fights – securing only two.

Amil has got one fight more on his opponent in that regard, having won three out of his last five fights. Another advantage the Philippines fighter has is that he has been consistently able to finish a fight early, notably defeating J. Lee in 1:05 in the first round and KO/TKO’d F. Garcia in Round 2 at 2:12. However, he slipped massively against J. Delgado who KO/TKO’d him instead in only 0:26 seconds, putting a blemish on his record.

In the follow-up fight against J. Emmers, Amil lost again, but this time he lasted the entire fight, with the judges handing down a Unanimous Decision to Emmers in the end.

What is interesting is that Amil is a pure power fighter, who can bring a fight to an end through stoppage, whereas his opponent, Rodriguez, relies on outsourcing their opponent. Neither is a particularly strong grappler, although both have secured at least one win this way.

So, this brings us back to the question – why are the bookies giving nearly (-200) probability for Rodriguez to win? Well, he fought some pretty tough opponents and did well with notable losses to A. Fili and M. Costa – in both fights the fighter went the distance, and this is a huge performance indicator.

Regardless, Amil is equally capable to go the distance against more seasoned fighters as he did against Emmers, and at this point, his better overall record is what gives us confidence to back him to win as well.

Pick: Pick Amil to Win (+170)
