Aleksandr Usyk is set to go up against Daniel Dubois in a rematch that the Ukrainian won via knockout in the 9th round. Now, the two are due for a rematch on Friday, July 19,  at Wembley Stadium in London, the United Kingdom.

Alvarez Is Betting Half a Million on Usyk Winning on Friday

Usyk has already pried away several big wins in his career, cementing him as an absolute legend. Moving from amateur boxing into the big leagues at a fairly late age, he defeated both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, not giving in a single fight to either one of them.

While there were allegations of fight manipulation and poor ruling, because of Usyk’s close first win over Fury, he cemented his dominance in the second fight. Now, Canelo Alvarez, the Mexican boxer who is an absolute legend in his own right, has said that he has wagered $500,000 on the Ukrainian to take down Dubois in the second fight as well.

Usyk is posted as an absolute favorite at -300 at BetMGM, for example, and a tie is set at +1800, which would be a shocking upset. Alvarez explained why he believed Usyk would come up on top.

Usyk, You Do You, Alvarez Tells the Ukrainian

“Over the past five years, Usyk has beaten the best. Oleksandr has very strong stamina; he’s very technical and smart,” Alvarez wrote in a social media post on X, adding: When I see someone with that kind of focus, I back them. That’s why I placed a big bet on his victory. Oleksandr, you do you.”

Alvarez and Usyk share a sort of mentality and dedication that few other athletes show in the sport. Both are working tirelessly and challenging by taking on opponents from various weight classes. The two fighters have taken on bigger opponents than themselves and have purposefully shifted weight divisions upwards to ensure that they get more of a challenge in each fight.
