Bodycam Footage Reveals Key Visit in Florida Sheriff Gambling Case

Newly released body camera footage has reignited scrutiny in a high-profile corruption case involving former Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez, showing deputies encountered a suspected illegal gambling venue years before his arrest. 

New Footage Highlights Early Warning Signs in Florida Gambling Probe

The footage shows a routine inspection that took place in September 2022 at the Eclipse Social Club in Kissimmee, Florida. Deputies saw many digital machines that looked like casino slot machines during the visit, some of which showed large potential payouts. However, in official reports, officers are said to have left the premises without shutting down operations or making arrests, reported WKMG News 6. 

Investigators think the visit could be a key moment in understanding how the alleged gambling operation continued uninterrupted for nearly two more years. The club was part of a wider illegal operation that brought in millions of dollars, prosecutors say. 

Court records indicate that deputies, while inside the venue, were contacted by the club’s operator, Krishna Deokaran, who let Lopez know about the inspection. They say later the sheriff assured him there would be no problem. The communications are being presented in the context of a wider case accusing Lopez of leveraging his position to protect the operation from enforcement actions. 

Guilty Pleas and Cash Allegations Add Pressure in Lopez Investigation

Deokaran has since confessed to financial crimes related to the gambling business and is working with investigators. He reportedly told authorities he handed over large sums of money to Lopez over time, describing cash payments handed over in envelopes. Prosecutors said it could total hundreds of thousands of dollars. 

Lopez has denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty to racketeering charges. His legal team has said the evidence as it is presented is out of context and paints a distorted picture of what happened. 

The deputy who wrote up the 2022 visit told investigators later that he thought the situation was odd, given the apparent lack of proper licensing and documentation for the business. He said he raised his concerns with supervisors within the sheriff’s office at the time. 

The case has broadened beyond individual responsibility and raised larger questions about the agency’s internal oversight. Officials are now looking into whether warnings from deputies were adequately followed up and why the establishment continued to operate until a search warrant was executed in 2024. 

Complicating matters, a number of people tied to the investigation — including Lopez’s estranged wife — have already pleaded guilty. Lopez is the only central figure preparing to contest the charges in court.
