Australian betting company PointsBet Holdings unveiled the appointment of the experienced Andrew Catterall as the company’s new chief executive officer. Catterall, who is currently serving as CEO for PointsBet Australia, will replace the outgoing group CEO, Sam Swanell.
Catterall Led the Australian Division for Years
According to the announcement, Catterall will step into the office on February 1, 2026, subject to customary gaming licensing and regulatory approvals. In this position, he will succeed the outgoing Sam Swanell.
Swanell will remain around during the transition period, ensuring a smooth transfer of responsibilities. After that, he will move into an advisory role within the group. The company clarified that Swanell will retain his executive director role.
PointsBet described Catterall as an experienced senior executive who boasts some 20+ years in leadership roles across the gaming, media, sports, and digital sectors. During his time as PointsBet’s CEO for Australia, Catterall has helped transform the company, improve its products, and reinforce its marketing efforts.
Before joining PointsBet in 2022 as CEO of PointsBet Australia, he served as CEO of Racing.com. During that time, he fostered “significant growth in audience, digital engagement and commercial performance.”
Catterall’s earlier experiences included senior executive roles at AFL, Racing Victoria, and the Boston Consulting Group, among other businesses.
PointsBet’s Board Trusts Catterall to Guide the Business
Brett Paton, PointsBet’s chairman, thanked the outgoing Swanell for guiding the company for years and sparing no effort in pursuing further expansion and business improvement.
Sam has guided PointsBet through every stage of its development and growth, and his continued involvement in an advisory capacity, as well as his ongoing service on the Board, will ensure the business continues to benefit from his insight and experience.
