Allwyn UK, the British arm of the Czech lottery giant and operator of The UK National Lottery, has confirmed the upcoming installation of new lottery machines across the country. This initiative aligns with the company’s earlier promises to take care of the long-overdue modernization the lottery.
Allwyn Moves to the Next Stage of Its Lottery Transformation
According to Allwyn’s official announcement, it has moved to the “next stage” of its transformation plan, under which it will install more than 30,000 new Wave lottery terminals across retail shops that currently use Altura machines.
The lottery giant clarified that the Wave terminals are underpinned by cutting-edge technology that will change the lottery experience for both retailers and players. Described as sleek machines with impressive technical specifics, the terminals boast quick transaction times, tilt-adjustable screens, wireless 1D barcode and 2D code scanners, as well as a play slip reader. In addition to that, the Wave machines offer a variety of other features, including reporting capabilities and the ability to change numbers on National Lottery Fast Pay cards.
Earlier this year, Allwyn installed 8,000 Wave terminals across retailers that previously used Compact Lottery Terminals, which leveraged an older operating system. By the end of August, the company plans to replace the Altura machines of approximately 4,000 retailers with Wave terminals. From September, Allwyn will continue to install more Wave machines across the UK.
Allwyn noted that this comes in the wake of its recent huge technical upgrade of The National Lottery.
Allwyn Recognizes the Importance of Technology
Jenny Blogg, Allwyn’s director of operations, called the installation of the Wave machines a “massive undertaking.” According to her, the operator has so far invested more than GBP 350 million to transform The National Lottery.
These [the upgrades] will support exciting plans we have for new games, a better player experience, and a commitment to double returns to Good Causes from £30m to £60m every week by the end of our 10-year licence.

Blogg added that the coming months will see Allwyn install thousands of Wave machines every week. She underscored her team’s commitment to enhancing the in-store experience for both retailers and customers.
The response to the new Wave machines has so far been overwhelmingly positive. Some store representatives were impressed by their speed and reliability, while others noted that the new terminals are much more intuitive to use.
